Despite the difficult times that our society and labor market are going through, technology continues to be one of the driving forces of our economy, making the ICT sector one of the sectors with the highest job growth. This sector has played an indispensable role throughout 2020, has continued to exercise its reign throughout 2021 and will also be key in 2022.

Technology-related professions have been the most requested by Spanish companies: in 2021 there was a 48% increase in published vacancies versus 2020. And this demand continues to far exceed the supply of professionals related to the ICT sector. This fact has contributed to finding ourselves in a situation where companies are having great difficulty finding candidates and a battle has been unleashed to get the best talent; and for this reason, they are being forced to innovate in their talent attraction policies and methods.

The consolidation of a key sector

The outbreak of COVID-19 forced many companies to move their business model towards a more digital environment. It also helped accelerate the modernization of companies, forcing teams to work remotely, many for the first time. It has been calculated that Spanish companies spent almost 45,000 million euros during the first half of 2021 alone to optimize their processes, guarantee the security of their digital structures and facilitate teleworking.

The most required professionals are concentrated in the areas of analysis and programming, support and exploitation, project management and direction, systems, networks and security, business intelligence, Big Data, Growth Hacking, technology and quality consulting, and auditing.

At the same time, when it comes to everything related to digital activity derived from electronic commerce, growth has also been unstoppable. The different confinements, the fear of contagion and the rise in recent years of campaigns such as Christmas, Black Friday, Single Day or Cyber Monday shot up the rate of online purchases by up to 36% in Spain.

This, in turn, meant that companies had to strengthen their online presence and, consequently, increased the need to incorporate experts in this field into their staff.

In this area, the most demanded profiles are the technicians related to SEO, SEM, ADS, Social Media or CRM
